Many of our athletes used this fantastic virtual event to check out how their winter training had worked and to see what areas needed fine tuning ahead of the serious business of this year's actual racing. Its fair to say, everyone that took part has performed above and beyond expectations, which is great reward for the hard graft that has been put in during the tough, dark, wet, cold winter months.
The Highlights:
Lindsay - first full distance ride completed outside on the full Lakesman course in 7:30 with power to spare at the end. Its always great to get that first big ride done, and know that its nothing to be scared of, but just needs treating with the respect it deserves. This is the first of many steps for Lindsay as she heads for her first full distance event in 2022, via a number of pitstops - the first significant one being the Lakesman 70.3 in June this year
James - new to triathlon over the last 12 months, and the first opportunity to put a 70.3 brick together on his journey to IM Finland 140.6 in August this year. Riding the Lakesman 70.3 course on Rouvy in 2:32, and straight out for a 1:28 HM. This is better than his previous best stand alone HM.
Helen - looking to check out her progress ahead of a busy summer of 70.3 racing - 3 events in 4 weeks, including a Team GB race if they all go ahead as planned. Helen also rode the Lakesman 70.3 course on Rouvy in a PB of 2:52 and followed that up with a 1:39 HM PB too!! This is a great confidence booster as we head into a race specific block of training
William - going long and very long later his year - Roth as part of Team GB in September and before that the new 255 event at his local Goodwood circuit in August. So no real surprise that Bill went long this weekend, with a 5:15 ride on Zwift and then a stunning marathon PB of 3:33 with a negative spilt. In Bill's words "not a bad big training day!!"
Danny - going long at the Lakesman in June, took on the long course challenge too this weekend, putting in a 4:26 on Zwift and then finally a sub 3 hour marathon - 2:55. Danny has been knocking on that door for a while, and put himself through it to know that its there if he needs it in June. A fantastic physical and mental barrier to break down - great job!
Coach Paul - also going long in June at the Lakesman - rode the Lakesman full course on Rouvy in a 4:53 PB and then a 4:04 marathon which is great progress back from double groin surgery in November last year
So, in summary, a great day out for everyone achieving what they set out to do and more, and a real firm foundation built over winter so the fun can begin in race preparation mode.
